The project is anchored on the edge of the Battery Park City esplanade and placed
on the axis between the land and the Hudson River. It remembers the lives that
were tragically lost by Hurricane Maria on September 20th 2017.
The circular path as a perfect pure figure, symbolizes an embrace of solidarity,
like two arms reaching out for unity, honor and hope between New Yorkers and
Puerto Ricans. It appears between land and water, past and memory, reflection
and healing. It is a place of gathering and remembrance.
The silent proposal tries to be respectful of the surroundings. The memorial, a true
symbol of resilience and courage, uses noble yet powerful materials to represent
its strength, toughness and longevity.
